Today is the the official first day of Fall.
There's just something about the autumn season that stirs in me a sense of hope and new beginnings. Do you feel that, too?
Maybe it was having a new school year to look forward to, the new books to write in, the new friends to make... or maybe it is because it is the Head of the Year on the Hebrew calendar.
Whatever stirs those feelings in us, we can be excited about new seasons and new beginnings.
Every new season offers us a fresh entry into something new and amazing, whether it's autumn, winter, spring or summer; whether it is a new season of life - a new school year, a new job, a new birthday, or whether it's a new calendar year, a new month, or even a new day! We are offered fresh starts and fresh hopes. God's mercy is new every day.
And just like the passing from summer into autumn, we pass from things we did in the last season into new things to do in this season. We don't wear the tees and shorts we wore on the hot summer days to keep us warm in the cooler days of autumn. And we have new clothes, new ways of having fun in the fall and winter. Each season of life is unique and opens up amazing opportunities to embrace what it brings.
"Forgetting what lies behind I leaning forward to what lies ahead...." Phil 3:13
If we enter the fall season and it's cooler weather with disappointment that we have shorter days and need to wear warmer clothing, we will miss the present goodness God has for us in this moment of time.
If we continue to miss the last season of life as God leads us into the new season, we will miss the abundance of life God has for us in this one.
"Remember Lot's wife." Luke 7:32
When Lot's wife looked back, gazing at her past, possibly saddened for what she left behind, she got stuck there - and she missed her whole future.
When Israel longed for what they had in Egypt, comparing with the old and complaining about the new, they missed what God had for them in - both in the present and the abundance in their future promised land.
Don't fall into the trap of wanting the old more than what God has for you in the new.
God wants to give you your future!
"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
Every season requires us to adjust and move with it, just as we adjust to wearing warmer clothes n the fall than we did in the summer.
Today, put on a fresh expectation, a fresh dream of what this new season can bring.
Fall in love with Jesus again.
Consider each day is an open door to know Him more.
Stir up a fresh love for Jesus each day. Let a passion for Him arise in your heart.
As you seek Him with a fresh first-love passion, you will be amazed at what this new season will bring! Your heart will be full with thanksgiving. Your mouth will overflow with praise. His blessings will show up everywhere! Prayers will be answered. Desires will be realized. And His joy and peace and expectation will fill your days.
On this first day of Fall, and every day this year, fall in love with Jesus all over again and let abundant life fill you and overflow all around you.
